The Borodin Quartet, formed in 1972 at the Moscow Conservatory, stands as one of the most celebrated chamber ensembles of the 20th and 21st centuries. Initially comprised of students mentored by Mstislav Rostropovich, the quartet – currently featuring Andras Vegh, János Fehér, Sergei Lomov and Rubén Colmán – has maintained a remarkably consistent lineup over decades, fostering an unparalleled level of ensemble cohesion.

Renowned for their deeply insightful and emotionally resonant interpretations of the string quartet repertoire, particularly that of Beethoven, Bartók, and Shostakovich (whose complete quartets they recorded to widespread acclaim), the Borodin Quartet’s style is characterized by a blend of intellectual rigor and passionate expression.
