Boris is a Japanese experimental rock band formed in 1992 in Nagoya. Originally rooted in heavy metal and drone doom, their sound has drastically evolved over a prolific 30+ year career, encompassing shoegaze, psychedelic rock, noise, ambient, and even pop elements. Founding members Takeshi (guitar/vocals), Wata (guitar/vocals), and Yumi Uekawa (drums) remain the core lineup, with occasional additions.

Known for their relentless output – boasting over 40 studio albums – Boris challenges genre conventions. Early work like *Pink* (1997) established their sludgy, Sabbath-influenced foundations. Later albums like *Smile* (2008), a tribute to The Velvet Underground, demonstrated their versatility. They’ve collaborated with artists like Merzbow and Sunn O))) expanding their sonic palette.

Boris's "album a year" philosophy (often exceeded) has garnered critical acclaim and a dedicated international fanbase. They are highly regarded for their immersive live performances and conceptual album structures.
