Petry’s breakthrough came with the album *Lost in a Dream* (1994), featuring the title track which reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. He followed this success with hits like "You and the Night," “Closer to You,” and “Only My Heart Knows.” His music blends traditional country instrumentation with pop sensibilities, often focusing on themes of love, loss, and everyday life.
