Experience Bernhard Forck
Bernhard Forck (born 1956 in Herdecke, Germany) is a highly respected German guitarist and composer, primarily known for his innovative work within contemporary instrumental guitar music and new acoustic music. He began his career in the 1980s, initially exploring jazz fusion before developing a distinctly personal style characterized by extended techniques, prepared guitar, and a focus on timbre and texture.
Forck’s compositions often eschew traditional song structures, prioritizing sonic exploration and improvisation. He frequently incorporates elements of minimalism, ambient music, and world music influences – particularly those from Asia and South America – into his work. He has released numerous albums as a solo artist and collaborated extensively with other musicians across diverse genres including jazz saxophonist Uwe Kropinski and percussionist Trilok Gurtu.
A significant aspect of Forck’s career is his dedication to education; he holds a professorship at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, influencing a new generation of guitarists. His recordings have been critically acclaimed for their originality and technical mastery, establishing him as a key figure in contemporary guitar performance and composition. He continues to tour internationally and release new material.
