Beauty and the Beats were an American R&B/pop vocal duo formed in 1987, comprised of Barry Hendricks and Robbie Fisher. Initially gaining recognition as backing vocalists for Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, they signed with Capitol Records in 1989. Their debut single, “Another Step,” released that year, became a significant hit, peaking at #4 on the *Billboard* Hot 100 and achieving Platinum certification by the RIAA.

The duo’s sound blended smooth vocals with new jack swing influences, a popular genre at the time. They followed up with their self-titled album *Beauty and the Beats*, which reached Gold status. Subsequent singles like "I Need Your Lovin'" also charted successfully.

Despite initial momentum, the group disbanded in the early 1990s following creative differences. Hendricks continued a career as a songwriter and producer, contributing to projects for artists like Mary J. Blige. While their output was relatively brief, Beauty and the Beats left a lasting mark on late 80s/early 90s R&B with their catchy melodies and polished production, remaining a fondly remembered act of the era.
