Basel Sinfonietta is a Swiss chamber orchestra renowned for its historically informed performance practice and adventurous programming. Founded in 1998 as *Das Neue Orchester Basel* and rebranded in 2017, the ensemble evolved from a project-based collective into a fixed, professional orchestra. They are closely associated with conductor Giovanni Antonini, who served as Artistic Director from 2005-2013 and continues as Principal Guest Conductor.

The Sinfonietta distinguishes itself through a flexible instrumentation – ranging from small chamber ensembles to full orchestral forces – allowing for diverse repertoire choices. Their discography, primarily on the Pentatone label, focuses heavily on Baroque and Classical composers, including Vivaldi (particularly their acclaimed *Vivaldi: The Four Seasons* recordings), Mozart, and Haydn. Notably, they’ve achieved international recognition for their complete Mozart symphonies cycle.

Beyond core classical repertoire, Basel Sinfonietta actively commissions new works and collaborates with contemporary artists. They frequently perform at major European festivals like the Salzburg Festival and have toured extensively throughout Europe, Asia and North America. The orchestra is resident at the Volkshaus Basel, fostering community engagement alongside its concert hall appearances.
