Barbara Nadas is a Hungarian-Canadian vocalist and composer renowned for her distinctive blend of jazz, world music, and contemporary improvisation. Born in Budapest, she immigrated to Canada in 1975 and quickly established herself on the Toronto jazz scene. Nadas’s vocal style is characterized by its remarkable range, scat singing prowess, and emotionally resonant delivery, often incorporating elements of her Hungarian folk music heritage.

Throughout a career spanning decades, she has released numerous albums as a leader, including critically acclaimed works like “Return to You” (1996) and “At Last” (2008). She frequently collaborates with leading Canadian and international musicians, notably pianist Bernie Senensky with whom she enjoyed a long-standing musical partnership.

Nadas has received multiple Juno Award nominations – Canada’s highest music award – recognizing her contributions to vocal jazz. Beyond performance and recording, she is an active educator, conducting workshops and masterclasses globally. Her work consistently explores themes of cultural identity, memory, and the power of vocal expression. She continues to perform and record, maintaining a dedicated following captivated by her unique artistry.
