Augustin Dumay is a celebrated French classical violinist, renowned for his lyrical playing and profound musicality. Born in 1971, Dumay studied with Gérard Jarry, Michèle Auclair, and Yehudi Menuhin – influences deeply shaping his interpretive style. He rose to international prominence after winning the Carl Flesch International Violin Competition in 1990.
Dumay’s repertoire spans from Baroque to contemporary works, though he’s particularly admired for his interpretations of French composers like Debussy, Ravel, and Fauré. He frequently performs with leading orchestras worldwide, including the London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, and Boston Symphony Orchestra, collaborating with conductors such as Charles Dutoit and Vladimir Jurowski.
Beyond orchestral performances, Dumay is a dedicated chamber musician, founding the Trio Ébène with cellist Jérôme Pernoo and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet (later replaced by Louis Lortie).
