Experience Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra
The Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO) is a nationally recognized training orchestra and a core component of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s (ASO) Talent Development Program. Founded in 1972, ASYO provides advanced orchestral performance experience to exceptionally talented young musicians aged 13-22 across the Southeast. Auditions are highly competitive, drawing students from Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and beyond.
The orchestra performs a full concert season at Atlanta’s Woodruff Arts Center, showcasing repertoire spanning Baroque to contemporary works. ASYO regularly collaborates with renowned guest conductors and soloists, offering invaluable mentorship opportunities. Past conductors include Robert Spano and Donald Runnicles.
ASYO has toured extensively, including performances at Carnegie Hall (2016) and international tours to Europe (most recently 2023), garnering critical acclaim for their technical skill and musical maturity. Many ASYO alumni have gone on to professional orchestral careers, holding positions in major ensembles like the ASO itself, and other leading orchestras nationwide. The program emphasizes not only musical excellence but also leadership development and community engagement through outreach performances.
