Arturo Sandoval is a Grammy-winning Cuban-American jazz trumpeter, pianist, and composer renowned for his virtuosic technique and vibrant fusion of Latin jazz and bebop. Born in 1949 in Artemisa, Cuba, Sandoval began his musical journey studying classical trumpet before immersing himself in Afro-Cuban jazz traditions. His career took off as a member of the legendary group Irakere, led by Chucho Valdés, which earned international acclaim for blending jazz, rock, and traditional Cuban music.

In 1990, Sandoval defected to the United States, where he quickly established himself as a leading figure in contemporary jazz. His style is characterized by dazzling improvisations, intricate rhythms, and heartfelt melodies that reflect his Cuban roots and American influences. Over the decades, Sandoval has collaborated with icons such as Dizzy Gillespie—his mentor—Benny Golson, and Quincy Jones.
