Antje Weithaas is a highly acclaimed German violinist, renowned for her intensely focused interpretations and technical brilliance. Born in Rostock in 1973, she began violin studies at age five and quickly rose to prominence, winning the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis in 1991 – a pivotal moment launching her international career.
Weithaas is celebrated for her diverse repertoire, spanning Baroque through contemporary works, but particularly noted for her compelling performances of Bach’s solo sonatas and partitas. She consistently collaborates with leading orchestras worldwide, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and Boston Symphony Orchestra, working with conductors like Riccardo Muti, Sir Simon Rattle, and Kent Nagano.
Beyond orchestral appearances, Weithaas is a dedicated chamber musician, founding the Stradivarius Trio with Christian Poltéra and Tanja Tetzlaff. She has released numerous recordings on labels like Deutsche Grammophon and Hyperion, receiving critical acclaim for their insightful artistry. A professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München since 2008, Weithaas actively mentors the next generation of violinists while maintaining a demanding performance schedule.
