Anthony McGill is a celebrated American clarinetist, widely recognized as one of the leading performers of his generation. Principal clarinetist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra since 2014, he previously held the same position with the Philadelphia Orchestra for twelve years. McGill’s career extends beyond orchestral performance; he is a sought-after soloist, performing with major orchestras globally including the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, and Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Known for his rich tone, technical brilliance, and expressive interpretations, McGill’s repertoire spans classical standards to contemporary works – notably commissioning and premiering pieces by composers like Jennifer Higdon. He is deeply committed to expanding the clarinet repertoire and advocating for diversity in classical music.

A graduate of The Juilliard School and Curtis Institute of Music, McGill was awarded an Avery Fisher Prize in 2017. He actively engages in educational outreach through his foundation, 92Y Orchestra of Clariontetists, fostering young clarinetists from diverse backgrounds.
