Angela Verbrugge is a Canadian vocalist, composer, and arranger specializing in vocal jazz and contemporary improvised music. Emerging prominently in the Toronto jazz scene, she gained recognition for her a cappella work, initially showcasing intricate vocal layering and looping techniques – notably with her project “Uniform Motion” (2013).

Verbrugge’s style is characterized by a remarkable vocal range, precise intonation, and a commitment to textural exploration. She frequently employs extended vocal techniques, moving beyond traditional jazz phrasing into sound painting and free improvisation. Her discography includes albums like “Second Skin” (2017), lauded for its harmonic complexity and rhythmic sophistication, and "Both Sides" (2021) featuring collaborations with notable instrumentalists.

A graduate of the University of Toronto’s Jazz Performance program, Verbrugge has received numerous awards including multiple Toronto Arts Council grants and recognition from the SOCAN Foundation.
