Andrew Neu is a highly regarded American drummer, composer, and educator known for his versatile work across jazz, improvised music, and contemporary classical genres. Originally from Minneapolis, he relocated to New York City in 2008 and quickly became a prominent figure on the creative music scene. Neu is a long-standing member of Anthony Braxton’s Quartet (2011-2017) and Trillium R, performing extensively worldwide and appearing on numerous recordings with Braxton, including the critically acclaimed *Sun of Gold*.
His distinctive style emphasizes rhythmic nuance, textural exploration, and a deeply interactive approach to ensemble playing. He leads several projects including the Andrew Neu Trio (featuring John Escreet & Desirée Vos), and co-leads the collective improvisation group, Good For Kali.
Neu has released albums as a leader on labels like NoBusiness Records ("Duets" with Matt Mitchell) and released “Numbers” (2023) on Out of Town Music. He's also a dedicated educator, holding positions at Wesleyan University and offering private instruction. His work has been praised for its intellectual depth and captivating performance quality.
