Experience Andreas Schager

Andreas Schager is an Austrian operatic tenor renowned for his interpretations of Mozart and Strauss roles. Born in 1959, he studied voice at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. His international career launched in 1988 with a Ferrando in *Così fan tutte* at the Vienna State Opera, where he remains an ensemble member.

Schager excels in *heldentenor* repertoire, particularly the demanding roles of Florestan (*Fidelio*), Max (*Der Freischütz*), and especially Kaiser Ottokar (*Die Frau ohne Schatten*). He’s widely celebrated for his bright, ringing tone, stamina, and dramatic intensity. He's a frequent performer at leading opera houses including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and Bavarian State Opera.

Beyond opera, Schager performs lieder and concert works. He has recorded extensively, receiving accolades for his interpretations of Strauss’s operas with conductors like Christian Thielemann. Numerous awards recognize his contributions to opera, including the Austrian State Prize for Artistic Achievement (Österreichischer Staatspreis für künstlerische Leistung) in 2018. He continues to actively perform internationally as a leading tenor.
