Experience Amsterdam Klezmer Band

Amsterdam Klezmer Band, formed in 1996, is a Dutch musical ensemble renowned for their energetic and innovative take on Eastern European klezmer music. Initially rooted in traditional melodies learned from sources like clarinetist Isidore Leibish, the band rapidly evolved, incorporating influences from jazz, funk, hip-hop, and Latin rhythms. This fusion created a distinctly vibrant and danceable sound, departing from purely traditional interpretations.

They’ve released seven studio albums to date, including “Oy Vey!” (2003) and “Herr Zimmerman” (2017), consistently touring extensively throughout Europe and beyond – performing at major festivals such as Sziget Festival (Hungary), Lowlands (Netherlands), and WOMAD UK. Their live performances are particularly celebrated for their improvisational energy and audience interaction.

The band's lineup has remained remarkably stable with core members including Harald Aubel (clarinet), Jasper de Vries (trombone), and Lucas van Oostrum (accordion). Amsterdam Klezmer Band have garnered critical acclaim for successfully bridging generational gaps and introducing klezmer music to new audiences while respecting its heritage. They continue to record and perform, maintaining a significant presence within the global world music scene.
