Experience Alexander Lonquich

Alexander Lonquich is a German pianist renowned for his intellectually rigorous and emotionally nuanced interpretations of classical repertoire, particularly that of Bach, Beethoven, and Schubert. Born in 1978, he initially studied law before dedicating himself fully to music, receiving crucial mentorship from Alfred Brendel.

Lonquich’s career gained significant momentum after winning the International Beethoven Competition in Bonn (2002) and the Concours Musical International de Genève (2005). He avoids extensive touring, preferring instead to focus on carefully curated recital programs and chamber music collaborations with ensembles like the Artemis Quartet.

His discography, primarily on the Harmonia Mundi label, features critically acclaimed recordings of Beethoven’s complete piano sonatas – lauded for their clarity and structural insight – as well as Schubert’s late sonatas and *Winterreise* song cycle with Christian Gerhaher. Lonquich is noted for his historically informed performance practice, prioritizing textual fidelity and a restrained emotional palette. He currently holds a professorship at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. His approach consistently emphasizes musical architecture over virtuosic display.
