Àbáse, born David Mutasa in Harare, Zimbabwe, is a critically acclaimed singer-songwriter and producer rapidly gaining international recognition for his unique blend of Afro-soul, jazz, and ambient electronic music. Initially rising to prominence as a member of the collective Okay Kaya, Àbáse launched his solo career in 2021 with the EP *Lost & Found*.

His sound is characterized by layered vocals, intricate production featuring field recordings and subtle electronic textures, and deeply personal lyricism exploring themes of identity, displacement, and spirituality. He often incorporates Shona language elements into his work, grounding it in his Zimbabwean heritage.

Àbáse’s debut album *Inner Outer* (2023), released on Brownswood Recordings (Gilles Peterson’s label), received widespread praise from publications like Pitchfork and The Guardian. The album showcased a significant evolution in his production style and solidified his position as a leading voice in contemporary African alternative music. He has toured extensively across Europe and North America, supporting artists like Moses Sumney and performing at festivals including Primavera Sound. His work consistently demonstrates a commitment to sonic experimentation while retaining emotional depth and vulnerability.
