СОЮЗ-1 (Soyuz-1) is a Russian darkwave/synth-pop duo formed in Saint Petersburg in 2016, comprised of Maxim Kammerer and Anton Smirnov. Initially gaining traction through self-released tracks on SoundCloud, they quickly became prominent figures within the post-Soviet darkwave scene. Their sound blends coldwave aesthetics with elements of industrial, EBM, and minimal wave, characterized by driving basslines, atmospheric synthesizers, and Kammerer’s distinctive baritone vocals often delivered in Russian.
СОЮЗ-1’s breakthrough came with their 2018 EP *Волна* ("Wave"), followed by their critically acclaimed debut album *Акт 1: Демонстрация* ("Act 1: Demonstration") in 2020 via Swiss label Cold Transmission Music. This album garnered international attention and established them as a leading act in the genre. They have since released *Акт 2: Утопия* ("Act 2: Utopia") in 2022, continuing to explore themes of isolation, technology, and societal decay.
